Last weekend we hosted our second small scale aquaculture course here at Upper Hayne. We had people from as far away as Portugal and Estonia! We studied Aquaponics, small scale recirculation systems and pond based systems. It always amazes me the range of skills, experience and enthusiasm that people have who come on our courses. The rapid increase in growing our own food over the past few years has yet to happen with fish in the backgarden, but mark my words a few years down the line I think growing fish for the table (grown in your back yard) will become commonplace.

Just think, being able to eat the freshest fish available, know how it has been reared and obtaining the full knowledge of its provenance. However we are not there yet, much has to happen - but at least this could be argued as a step in the right direction. We will be doing more small scale aquaculture courses next year ............ watch this space.

It has been a while since I have posted a blog, however I intend to rectify this and make a regular contribution which over time I hope may at least be of interest to some.

The growing season is coming to an end - heavy dews in the morning are the norm now - but the fish are still feeding. We plan to go through our pond during November and we will then know what we have and what we will have to sell over Christmas.

We have two courses coming up shortly on Aquaponics and backyard fish farming - you can visit our website aquavisiononline.com for more details.
